For some reason I can’t download the updated firmware. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know of a fix?

For anyone to help - need more info. Is it the app, the grill, the internet(their one server)?

I’m using the app and trying to download the update (ios-iPhone). It starts to download and doesn’t go higher than 0% then stops spinning and says that it’s downloading and installing, but actually doesn’t do anything.

I’m not absolutely sure but I’m (logically) guessing that’s an upgrade to the phone app.

I’m not sure RecTeq controller boards are using EPROMS…which is what would be required to upgrade firmware on the grill itself. I’ll see if I can get an answer to that.

Generally speaking, PROMS are programmable read-only memory modules and they get “written to” at the factory once…before releasing the hardware to a customer. They’re used in a number of various applications and equipment.

EPROMS are “erasable” and can have a new instruction set written over the originally programmed instruction set.

I say all of this to clear the air on how that can work. It’s similar to how BIOS chips work in a computer. BIOS upgrades are effectively firmware upgrades…requiring the use of an EPROM.

If that didn’t put you to sleep, you may be drinking too much coffee. 😬🤭

My RecTeq app is v3.5.2, Build 1564. Maybe that is a firmware upgrade with such a different version number. 🤷🏼‍♂️

A true firmware upgrade could take a bit of time. And your grill would need to be powered on and connected to your WiFi.

I would say it is a controller firmware update which flashes the EPROM in the new models. My 700 does not have such. Like @SmokeOCD mentioned many things can impact an OTA process.

Edit: like @TheRicker said the grill will have to be plugged in not cooking.

I have a new 1400XL and updated the firmware the other day before doing a meat loaf. Plugged in, power off, and the update sailed right through. Keep trying.
Good luck.
