Greetings fellow smokers!

Wanted to share my recent (and first) experience with RecTec support. Kudos to them for a super fast reply and resolution, even when I submitted this late on a Saturday night. Working myself in remote technical support, this was fast great service.

After owning my RT1070 for a couple years now, I was very annoyed at the end of a cook that Er3 came up. Given I was done with the current cook I went ahead and shut er down for the evening and went on with my night. The next day spent some time looking up to discover Er3 is related to the temp probe installed on the left side, inside the RT1070.

Kolbe from Customer Service replied initially that evening I sent my request in and by the next day had submitted a request to ship me a replacement probe and also a link to video instructions for replacement. A few weeks.... (maybe more..lol) have gone by and today I finally took the time to replace the probe.

Nice clean probe installed and everything powered up nicely afterwards. However, I am concerned that two areas on the cable seem to be extremely frayed. So note to other owners - have a look yourselves. I am not in the habit of, nor have I ever pulled on these cords that should cause this breakdown. So I am unclear if that is from the initial assembly at the factory, maybe during shipping or just the cable quality. Once I built the unit on my deck, it really has only moved a few feet back and forth as I've cleaned up around it.

The stress points seem to be right at the hard edges I have outlined in the photos.
Happy smoking all!

Critter chew while trying to get into the cook chamber, perhaps? Just a WAG.

Thank you very much for sharing the information AND the pictures.

I think it's a factory install problem. I had the same thing.
So the rat was installed at the factory? I'm surprised they didn't charge extra
