Hi All,

I'm looking at buying the DualFire mostly due to the fact I won't be able to own both a grill and smoker in my backyard. I'm wondering how viable the smaller side is to use as a grill. For the most part the size should be fine, but I was wondering more how it cooks. I'm assuming it uses pellets to cook on the direct heat side as it does on the indirect side? Will this cause my cooking to taste smokey every time I cook, or is there a way to control it so that you don't taste when you don't want to? I'm just curious on how it works.

Thank you!
Dom

Welcome to the forum, @Dominicr63. I don’t own a dual fire, so don’t have first-hand experience with one. That said, pellet grills generate significant smoke flavor at lower temperatures (generally 250F and below). As temperature rises, smoke profile usually goes way down. At grilling temperatures (400F and above), I don’t usually notice much smoke flavor.

“Smoke flavor” is all in the taste buds of the taster, however. Since pellet grills burn wood, there is the potential for some smoke flavor even at higher temperatures. If you are extremely sensitive to smoke flavor, a pellet grill might not be the best choice.

Dom did you end up getting one? I’m wanting one but have the same question as well(or more like my wife does).

I’ve seen it at the Evans GA HQ showroom. The direct heat side does have its own fire pit and burns pellets for heat/cooking.

As @Jim6820 said, higher cooking temps with pellet grills typically do not get a lot of smoke but you should get a wood-fired flavor cooking on it.

Here’s my recommendation for you to view before to start using any pellet grills.
