I’ve had my Recteq RT-680 for 4 1/2 years, it’s been heavily used here in South Florida and needs a complete new paint job.

I am wondering if anyone has completely dissasembled and repainted their entire grill?

If so,

1. Did you remove the hopper as well?
2. What kind of paint did you use?
3. Did you sandblast the parts?
4. What did you learn and would you do differently the next time?
5. What upgrades did you make?

I hate to reinvent the wheel and believe lots if folks have done what I would like to do…

I would disassemble as much as possible. Sand blast would be best, Harbor Freights little blaster works great. 2000° heat paint

Looks like your grill has a pretty serious amount of South Florida salt air corrosion. If you can sandblast it clean, that would be best. If not, use a rust killer like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01285U5U...g=hchjp&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_td_asin_1_title

Then, use a good hi-temp paint to refinish the grill.

I gather that the grill remains outdoors for extended periods of time when not in use. Do you cover it? That might help prevent future corrosion.

It’s normally covered, but there has been several cooks over the years while raining. I know I need the stainless upgrade. I think I will refurbish this one and sell it and upgrade to the RT-700.

The covers aren't exactly waterproof. Once mine got about a year old I started to notice the top surfaces would be wet when I removed the cover after it rained. No different from my other covered grills.
