So I’ve finally exhausted my on hand supply of pellets and am struggling locally here in central Denver.

Lumberjack Mesquite is my preferred, and I used to be able to always stock up at Proud Souls, but with their closure, I’m struggling to find a new store with a decent selection!

So any members in the Denver area, what is your preferred spot and brand? I’ve been really happy with the Lumberjack pellets, but if I can’t find a decent shipping option or local retailer, I’ll have to switch to something else so looking for local spots actually still in business with a selection beyond Traeger….

Per the Lumberjack store locator, looks like Steady Smokin and Holy Smokes carry them.

Have you been to steady smokin? Looks like they are a catering company, do they actually do retail sales?

I’m not putting a lot of faith in the store locator, Proud Souls and Ruff’s Barbeque Shoppe are both listed on the lumberjack locator and both have been out of business for a some time…

I used to buy Lumberjack at Dick's Sporting Goods. But I don't see Lumberjack listed with their pellets now.

Lowes carries Bear Mountain which is a favorite of mine, Ace Hardware typically has a big selection if you have a store there, and Tractor Supply carries Lumberjack and Bear Mountain here in Ohio at least.......agree that Trager pellets are subpar. IMHO it's hard to beat the Kirkland pellets from Costco, and that's pretty much my go to pellets now. Mesquite is so harsh and strong, I am a bit shocked that anyone likes that for anything beyond perhaps cooking beef.

I'm always looking for a good strong mesquite pellet. As you noted, mostly just for beef. And then, not for long smokes, unless blended or only part of the smoke time.

When you mentioned mesquite being strong, were you specifically talking about Kirkland pellets?

I’ve tried Mesquite but it seems to impart a somewhat bitter taste when used for long cooks. YMMV
I mostly use it for beef steaks and tri-tip (med-rare), where the smoke exposure is limited. For me, I like the flavor if it's not over used.

My cousin lives in Arizona and has copious amounts of proper seasoned mesquite for his custom stick burner, he loves it for all things beef and says is amazing when it's burning clean.......otherwise it's post oak for him.

Mesquite is great for hot and fast and I still frequently use mesquite lump charcoal on my PK. Back in my (failed) stick burner days, I used mesquite on a long cook of a brisket. It was truly awful.
