Bullseye solution since I can't purchase a replacement part from recteq

OP-you have stated several times your disappointment, but have yet to say how old the grill is. This is relevant-nothing lasts forever. Also, have you confirmed it is failing to hold temp, or is this a hypothetical?

Like mentioned above, I'd fabricate a skirt and rivet to the outside.

*edit to add-just saw this is an old post, and OP hasn't returned....

Looks like a viable solution to me. Even has a link to the part needed.

I like Franken-grills, congratulations.
The bowl diameter is like a standard weber kettle, but it's pretty light. If that burns thru after high heat cooking maybe a Weber kettle.
I think to use a weber grill bottom that support triangle on the left of pic would need some work to accommodate the weber shape.
Maybe something to try once this solution wears out. Get a used 22" weber on Craigslist for $50-ish.
Anyway, good job - cook something and post it in the Show us what you're cooking thread.

IMO, from someone who owned two of these first generation SS Bullseyes, the challenge seen is not ‘rust’, it is because running them in Riot (mostly peaceful protest) mode on a regular basis just burns them out. I assume the pics indicate an original diffuser, which is a surprise to me because I burned my first one out quickly. I have little faith that anything other than avoiding regular use of extreme high temps mode will ever be a solution that is long-term. They are off-shore made kettle grills that have the capability to burn out at nuclear temps. Just buy a new Bullseye, and assume it will eventually wear out.

I agree 100%. My group received quite a number of these grills and my 380 is the only one that burned out so far. It is true that I have maxed out the temp quite often and that is also what I believe attributed the premature failure of the kettle. Although I have burned 240Lb of pellets. The new Bullseye is plan B.

So, are you not a little bit curious to what part the fire pot plays in this ‘solution’? This is not a plug-and-play option for the average grill owner.
Nope! I don’t own a 380, so if it works for the one who does, I’m fine with it.

You don’t need to own a Bullseye to understand this. Can you just throw a stainless bowl or hotel pan in your 340 and it works, without a fire pot?
The YouTube videos I’ve seen often show 380’s in a raging inferno because the user cranked into riot mode to cook a fatty steak or two. I don’t get it.

These 380’s are IMHO a Weber kettle grill running on wood pellets. Consideration of temperature control and grease management is important on both. That’s why I’ve been somewhat conservative in using my 380. I cooked steaks at 550F tonight. They were somewhat lean. I’m not sure I’ll ever get to riot mode.

As for some parts of this thread, I’ve got doubts about its authenticity. Just too many of these types of posts from “new members”…where things don’t seem logical. Maybe it’s just me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s not just you. So many of the members who helped create a recteq community here have moved on. New grills perhaps, or new change of scenery? Too many knowledgeable folks have left that I cannot imagine they quit outdoor cooking. Wish I knew where they moved to, or perhaps they don’t want me to know!

I’m sorry to hear folks may have left the forum. I love this forum and there’s a number of you regulars that make me proud to be a part of this bbq family / community. And I’m glad to see new members. Glad to share my experience and my viewpoint…as long as everyone understands it’s just MY opinion. And, as the saying (partially) goes…we all have one of those. 🤭

…..and then there’s @C. Keeper with his humor. Noteworthy for his “short guy” references that have become a standard punch line for a few others as well. (And I’m sure the newbies that are told to “…ask for the short guy” have no clue of its origin. I do imagine someone has called tech support and asked for “the short guy.”)

There’s at least a dozen of you that I look forward to reading posts from. I feel like I learn a little more about bbq/cooking and individual personalities everyday.

@Greg Jones Agree, I suspect, just based on what I’ve seen since joining, it happened between Covid down turn and the remote start rants. Some getting new cooker types/brands and moving away from a bit of a hostile environment. I know I was very close to moving on. The best to all!
