Bullseye solution since I can't purchase a replacement part from recteq

Probably less extra parts than you think. The Stainless Bullseye was a pretty significant upgrade from the OG model. I expect you might find many of your old components could not be used if they did send you the current model barrel. If you have a grill that is say, 5 years old, what do you think recteq’s responsibility is to have parts in stock for your particular situation?
Already been covered. I have high expectations and refuse to lower the bar.

Not sure that it has been covered. You stated you wanted to buy a part. You have a 5+ year old grill that hasn’t been made for 4+ years, and you are apparently not pleased that recteq doesn’t make replacement parts forever? Is that the bar you refuse to lower?

Ah, now I see, gotta pay the troll toll.

Clearly they're upset that RT won't specifically make a replacement part for them and ship it via magic genie express.

I have a Char-Griller product that is less expensive and older than the recteq. I recently received a free replacement part even though the product is well out of warranty.
My guess is if your main grill box rusted out on the Char-Griller product they wouldn’t have that as a part either. Typically grill manufacturers sell burners, controllers, grates etc.. but not the main fire box. I think you may have raised your expectations a little too high.

No such thing as too high 🤪

I think @Alteaux is talking to the wrong people here. This is not a company-sponsored forum and it is unclear whether RT even monitors it, at least regularly. This forum has served as a sounding board for his frustration, but it can’t find him a replacement part.

While folks here love to help people solve their cooking/grilling/smoking problems, this is one we can’t fix—sorry.

It’ll be interesting for me in year six of my discontinued 1070, for sure.

Refractory cement, turn it into a kamado hybrid!

The industry I work in, we get regular "revision" changes on parts we have been making for years with even just the slightest changes, but we DO NOT STOCK or build extra stock on anything that is gonna potentially sit long or indefinitely for just that reason. We consumers do pay a premium price for even things that are not considered premium, and sometimes less expensive comparable products last longer than the more expensive variety, and hell we might even get better customer service as well. If that was my grill and I was a fan of it and had served me well, I would just fix/modify whatever the issue was myself, or just buy the very obvious much better and upgraded version "which was done for I'd imagine a variety of good reasons". The price of the new improved model isn't bad at all IMHO, and it is sure to be covered by RT for a good while. ;)

Best of luck to the OP for whatever route you choose, but I just cannot fault RT at all in this scenario. I bet someone would love to make it their free pellet grill, would likely even serve them well for a decent duration as is, and especially longer if fixed properly. :)

C'mon DUCT TAPE to the rescue.

Mine is 7-years old now and is still holding strong with no rust issues. I don't clean out the chamber but maybe once every year or two. There's not much to clean out except some minor ash and some grease coating. Mine sits out on an exposed deck in FL. If it were to rust out, I'd be okay with only having paid $399 with free shipping. Most grills don't last half that long at that price point. I'd say pull the PID controller and reuse it for many other projects, but it doesn't have a PID. I'd be excited about updating to the newer stainless models with PID instead of trying to repair what is outdated. Your silicon idea would probably work to get you by. Why not make a Rectec planter instead though, lol.

I see people using covers on grills, AC units, cars and etc. problem is that the cover holds condensation and it doesn’t evaporate as a fast as being open to air flow. This causes the item to corrode faster. A friend had an old motorcycle sitting in his yard. He had it covered. He decided to sell it. Took the cover off. The bike looked good and then like magic it basically fell apart into a pile of rust.

You should try J B Weld high temp to patch it up. They also have other products that may work.

I have used their products on a lot of items. It works great

I have a 590 that I bought the first week of March this year and it’s exhibiting those same rust characteristics in the front lower part of the grill. I haven’t bothered to contact recteq and likely won’t. I always get some canned bovine scatology in response…

I’m sold on the pellet grill methodology but no longer on recteq…Yoder inbound!!!

They rust too, but I still support your choice.

I understand your frustration, but I don’t know any manufacturers that stock fundamental structural parts of their products. Auto manufacturers don’t have frames available, for instance. Now, if Recteq was the company we all thought it was before the venture capitalists took control, it would make you a generous offer on a new grill; something like a 50-60% discount. That’s how you build customer satisfaction and loyalty. Bean-counters don’t see it that way, however; to them, it is just wasted profit.
Yes, auto manufactures will sell you a frame.

I assume so. I have cleaned it regularly and never saw any pinholes until now. The rust didn't seemed to be so bad I was overly concerned.
I had the same issue , Bottom kettle rusted out after 2 years of use , I was able to purchase a 30 quart stainless steel bowl for 35 dollars from Amazon and with a few adjustments after inserting the stainless steel bowl inside rusted out Recteq Kettle it is working again. You will need to drill a hole for the thermostat sensor and remove the grill grate rack holders though. After I put the bowl in place the flame spreader and meat grate fit without having to use the grate and flame spreader rack holders. You will need a drill and it helps to have a grinder with a cutting wheel. I havent grilled with it yet but did a test to 350 and it got there and held it as in the past. Hope this helps. PS I did have to cut the top of the rim on the bowl off with the grinder cutting wheel and also use the grinder to cut the exsisting kettle to clean up the ragged rusted edges and get to good metal so it would look better. I was not sure it would work but decided that if the bowl did not fit good enough I could have cut it up and used the pieces to patch the holes.
