So I cooked my first beer can chicken on the 590. Cook took 2hrs at 325. First I applied olive oil with a nice coating of SuckleBusters Clucker Dust. Next I cut the top off a Texas Lager. Drank 1/3rd and added 3 garlic cloves, rosemary, chopped onions, and some bbq rub. Put the chicken on the beer throne while I started the 590 and lit my smoke tube. After 20 minutes holding temp I put the chicken on. About 45 minutes into the cook I melted a half stick unsalted butter and basted the chicken twice throughout the cook. When the chicken reached 155 internal temp I applied SaltLick Honey Pecan bbq sauce mixed with some clover honey to the entire chicken. Set the temp to 350 and pulled the chicken off after 5 minutes at 165 internal temp. Let rest for 10 minutes. Served with wild rice and green beans and some SaltLick Spicy bbq sauce. Family devoured everything!

Thanks! Kinda on a diet so only needed one bird. 3 months ago I would have eaten a entire chicken myself. Damn self restraint

I am too.. but my self restraint is not working out too well with this RecTeq.. ;)

New 590 owner here and this is my first cook also. Followed your cooking instruction and works to a T. My rub and BBQ sauce was different but no matter it was great. Hard to mess up with your instructions. One of the best beer butt chickens I've done. A little tearing of the skin on the legs late in the cook not enough to dry em out.
