Although they say to cook something greasy for the first cook it's really not necessary on these stainless steel grills, the older regular steel grills yes. As for a alternative to chicken bacon comes to my mind everyone loves bacon and it makes a nice greasy mess.

You can do anything you want as a first cook. Some do bacon, that is a little greasy... I did ribs as my first cook.
