Mooncusser is right; meat can't tell time. I cooked a 9.5 lb pork butt this past Friday (and Saturday) on my 700 at 225 degrees. I wrapped it in peach paper when it stalled at 155 degrees and total cook time was 18 hrs. Fortunately, I had planned for 16 hrs so I had to reduce the rest time a...
I've had my 700 for just under 2 mo. and so far, I've smoked large butterfly pork chops, several racks of ribs, a brisket flat, chicken breasts, salmon, and burgers. Just today, I smoked two nice sized tri-tip steaks (using Jess Pryles recipe) and some candied bacon twists. I could not be more...
Many of you have way more experience with RecTeq grills as I'm still a novice. My 700 is fully sealed, including the outside portion of the smoke stack. Just yesterday, I smoked 2 large (1 1/2" thick) pork chops for just under an hour at 285 degrees, until the internal probe showed 130...
I'm now using my 700 for most cooks and really enjoy smoking and cooking on it. I do have a small Napoleon gas grill that has only been used for searing and quick cooks. I recently ordered a Disc-it grill (disc cooker similar to the Matador) and hope to be able to get rid of the gas grill...
I sealed my Bull so, I don't have the stains that you have but, I've did try Bar Keeper's Friend and a couple of other household cleaners. Someone posted earlier that Cameo was recommended by ReqTeq and I gave it a try. It works really well and does not leave streaks on stainless steel...
MWShort, I'm not in the Tulsa area but just 2 1/2 hrs away in Norman, OK. I've had my 700 for just over month now and have done 6 cooks. I am very happy with my 700 and have not had a single issue. I you are unable find someone closer to give you a hands-on demo with their Rec Tec, let me know.
We use BKF on our stainless appliances and tried it on our 700 but found that it left streaks. Based on earlier discussions, it was indicated that RecTeq recommends Cameo and I gave it a try. It works much better and does not leave streaks. I also use the microfiber cloth.
Greg, on my 700, I leave the probe door open less than a quarter of the way and with the smoke tube about 4 or 5 inches from the side of the grill near the probe door. I think my original response said "open just a bit" and I should have been more clear. Anyway, I've now done 5 cooks using...
I use a propane torch as well. I always start the smoke tube first as it takes awhile to get it started. I've also found that if you leave the probe door open just a bit, it seems to help.
I think I could easily get by with just my RT700 for most all of my grilling and smoking needs. I have the front shelf, large interior shelf, and GrillGrates and chose it over the 590 as we have neighborhood cookouts and I cook for large family gatherings. I do have a small Napoleon gasser but...
I've used a smoke tube for years in my old gasser and now in my Bull with pretty good results. Since you are on the fence, I'd try a $25 smoke tube first before spending the bucks on a smokebox. Just last week, I smoked some salmon on the Bull. I set on low and put smoke tube half full of...
I've only done 4 cooks on my new Bull so far, and I'm really happy with Lumberjack Competition Blend. I do use a smoke tube when cooking fish and chicken and use Lumberjack Apple and Hickory for pork. Very little ash and good flavor and temperature performance. Since I get them for $8.99/20lb...
I too have looked hard at the Matador but the anemic burner is a real concern. I really like my Bull and was hoping to add another RecTeq product to the patio. We do large family meals several times a year and live in a neighborhood where neighbors meet for cookouts fairly frequently (at...
