According to Meathead Goldwyn and the Science of Great Barbeque and Grilling - there wont be a lot of difference in pellet flavor. He puts woods in two categories - mild and strong. "I cannot state this more emphatically. The quality of the meat, the spice rub, the cooking temperature, and...
And no problems with temp variance with raised Heavy D. They idea of two heat diffusers did not appeal to me so I went with raising the Heavy D using the bricks. Worked perfectly.
There is a post on Heavy D recommending that one put in two standard fire bricks to raise it to proper height over the fire pot. I did that in my 700 and it worked fine, and produced the smoke I wanted. Plenty of mesquite and pecan where I live so looking forward to some stick burning to...
Bought GriollGrates for my Bull based upon a recommendation from Kosmos, but have yet to install them. Even though not as good on a pellet grill as a gas grill, do you find they are useful on a pellet grill?
I like the look. And if the price were comparable to Lifetime I would definitely buy. But its not. And with great coolers out there for less, I do not know why I would buy just to say I got something with the same logo as my pellet grill.
I had odd issue last weekend. Second cook, was doing a roast. Temp was supposed to be 225. I am in Arizona so outside temp was 105. After 3 hours temp suddenly dropped, then became erratic jumping to 240 then down to 185. Was using Cookin pellets as sold at Recteq site. (Bought through...
I agree. One can buy a Yeti for this price and Yeti wannbes for as much as a hundred dollars less. Just got a 45 quart OtterBox which is rated for holding cold for longer than Yeti for 200 dollars.
I use Pam spray on grates before I cook. Keeps things from sticking and makes it easier to clean when done. I have an allergy to hard work, so want to make clean up as easy as I can.
I use Traeger BAC410 Pellet Grills Pro 34 Tray Liner. Fits fine. Does not melt. Easy to throw away and put in another. Scraping looks like work and I am allergic to it.
Interesting, may try this. Right now using Traeger liner which seems to work a lot better than foil, but there is still some pooling. Thought about increasing slope, and this sounds very interesting, since if I do not like it , I can simply remove the 2 x 4.
I too love mesquite. Have not tried yet, but will this next weekend with Lumberjack mesquite in the tube, and mesquite chunks in the Heavy D. And, in time, but today is not that day, local Arizona mesquite wood in the Heavy D.
What I do is before firing up the grill is spray clean grates with Pam or similar spray, then after the cook, when grates cool, clean. The spray makes it easy to clean since the crud does not stick as hard. If doing the scraping method, fine, again the spray makes it easier to scrape.
