I was curious if anyone has used a thermal blanket on the rt590? I've used one on my traeger to help it maintain heat & conserve on pellet consumption in freezing temps. Wasn't sure if it would be possible without the conventional smoke stack. Maybe it isn't needed.

I use one on mine, but I believe the new ones have a redesigned vent system so I'm not sure how the blanket I use will work without some modifications to fit the new vents.

RT doesn't offer one for the RT-590. That one is from Louisiana Grills and fits great, even for the horn handles. You'll see people using accessories from other grill manufacturers or even people making addon's for their RT grill since RT don't offer much.

I use a welding blanket. Have left it on all year.Heavy magnets to hold in place where needed.

I cut holes in a fiberglass welding blanket and taped the edges with high temp metallic tape. It works very well and was cheap, but it was a lot of work to get the tape right to prevent fraying of the cut edges. Not sure I’d do it again. if I needed a replacement I’d probably cough up some cash to buy the Louisiana grill cover above. But, I’ve got an older model with three vents, not the new louvered version.

We are in Georgia, so no need for a thermal blanket, we live in a thermal blanket......

I have a 590 and had a custom blanket made for mine. Keep in mind the cold weather blanket that is sold for the RT-700 comes with instructions about not using the blanket over 300 degrees (it may have been 250, I can’t recall) because it can cause bubbling of the paint on the lid. Trust me I found out the hard way. So if you decide to go with a custom made or purchase a Louisiana Grill blanket use with caution. If I had it to do over again I would just purchase the Louisiana Grills blanket and find out what the max temp is when using it with the 590. I too tried a welders blanket from Harbor Freight but wanted something better like I had for my Green Mountain.

Here are pics of the custom cover I had made.
