RT-700 Grill Cover a Piece Of Garbage

I am an engineer and it does take a bit of a process to get my RT-700 with the smoke box and comp cart. I agree with the OP that there are plenty of sharp edges, especially on the pellet hopper door and PID controller shelf. The day I assembled it I went around all that with a file to take the razor sharp edges off. I recommend everyone do that.

I have never understood why people find the RecTeq cover so incredibly difficult to take on and off.

I'm with ya Mike... There's a process, but it's simple.

Count me in with the "way to tight crowd". I have the competition cart with the shelf and maybe that part of the issue. I have put this cover on from each side tried every way I can think of.. I have several holes/tears in this cover. I did get a new cover sent to me once I called to talked to them. They told me that it is a very tight cover a I needed to take time to put it on. I have seen a mod on these forums for the remedy.. A ZIPPER! I have one ordered and will be installing on the new one before I ever put it on. I am also an engineer..a locomotive engineer..

I agree, It does take a bit of effort to get the cover on and off. My cover is still going strong after roughly four years now. I watched the video to pick up some tips and took it from there. I do like that it is a premium custom fit cover that won't blow off in high winds, but am lazy and don't like the time and effort it takes to keep from ripping it.

The zipper is a great idea! I'd like to hear where/how you put it in.

I also highly recommend you go around all the corners with a sharp mill file, then a hard ScotchBrite wheel mounted to a drill motor. This should go a long way toward preventing cutting the cover.

I have had mine for over two years now and have had no issues! Once I figured out to start at the smoke stack first it takes a couple of minutes to install! We have some pretty high winds here at times so I glad it is a snug fit and besides it looks better!

I agree. Mine is very snug to the point where it catches on the hopper edges. My 700 and cover are only a few months old and the cover is not actually waterproof. After a rain if I re I’ve it the grill is wet and drip pot will even be full of water.

Well I like thinner women in tight dresses, THAT said here is a picture of my Bull GIRL ..............on line,Costco, Sam's, Wall Mart ..............ETC...................

Just like previous post, I would like to vent too after trying to buy a replacement cover and REC-TEQ wants to charge me $85 for a new one. Listen I wouldn't mind spending the money if it was my fault why it tore to pieces. You literally need a engineers degree to get this thing on and off. You get one side on the other side is to snug, you adjust that and it tears because of the sharp corners. And never mind if it starts raining and you wants to put it on quick, "IMPOSSIBLE" Save yourself money and time and try to find a replacement for half the price.

Positive note, Love the grill.
Got the covert for my Bull last week and haven’t had any trouble. Takes a little trial and error to figure out the best way to get it on and off, but after that it’s smooth sailing. Fits like a glove!

I also like the cover. It fits tight, but after a couple cooks I figured a way to take it off without difficulties. I'll buy another one when the time comes.

I do know what you are saying with it being snug. I do have to go one side to the other to wiggle it off. Annoying for now. Only had to do it for 2 days though, so not pissed yet....

I was worried since I ordered mine with the grill, but it fits easily. I removed the bucket and lowered the shelf.

I know nobody should have to start modifying the cover to make it better but do the zipper mod that myself and others have done. Makes a world of a difference for anyone not crazy about the current on and off.

Why is your cover silver?

Mine must be a tight one.

I do start with the smoke stack. Then the handles. If I don't work it down evenly on all sides from there I can't get the cover over the control panel. Sometimes one side falls down and I have to pick it up and start over. Could be a little looser.

I have the smoke box too. I stopped using the cover a few weeks in. PIA to say the least.
