This smoker was made for Friday night burgers!

  • Grill Location: Hot Springs Village, AR.; 34 37 60.0N 92 54 55.4W - a pretty decent late January evening
  • Weather at time of Grill: Clear, with a recently completed sunset, Temp ~51F, Humidity 62%.
  • Total Grill Time: ~36 Min (17:42 - 18:18 CST)
  • Total Event Time: ~50 Min (minimal grill prep, making burger, and cooking some tater tots.
  • Grill Plates: Yes, next to searing steaks, they are a perfect fit for burgers on the bullseye
  • Temp Probes: N/A
  • Pellets Used: Rec Tec Ultimate Blend

  • Meat & Meat Prep
    • Meat: Normal 80/20 Ground Beef two patties tonight, and two for later.... Seasoned and green onions integrated into patties
    • Total Meat Prep Time: ~5 min
    • Meat on at ~18:07 CST

  • Sides:
    • Tater Tots (Walmart) w/ Momma’s Mayo-Siracha sauce dip. (our standard tater-tot dip)

Misc Grill Observations - all times are CST
  • Grill Start to Target Temp 57F to 375F ~ 23 min (17:42 - 18:05 CST)
    • 2nd time I've had to do a restart as the igniter didn't seem to kick in, but the restart seems to work, plus I'm always looking for it to "not start"....not sure what's going on, but my work around seems to work.
  • Cooked each pattie ~ 5 min per side, off the grill at (18:17 CST) - we melt the cheese for the last minute before taking the patties off the grill.

General Comments:

  • This is an easy and tasty Friday night meal
  • I think about the only thing that would make this grill a little better would be the addition of wifi remote capability as in the other Recteq smokers, that of course would probably force an overall price increase, but it is still a great smoker/grill.

@Sscottfitz those burgers look delicious! I just saw post with a video from @Keleent regarding an igniter adjustment for the Bullseye. You may want to check it out and see if maybe a fix for your restart problem.
Thanks, I’ll check it out - I’ve adjusted it once (the day I unpacked it.....) but it’s possible I need to do it again. Thanks for the info to be sure!

@Sscottfitz

Thanks for always putting the details for newbies like me!
I do have a question. I have the 590 Love it.
I bought the Bullseye to cook smaller meals, quicker etc as we are empty nesters.
The main question I have is why do you need to use the grillgrate on the Bullseye if it gets so hot?
I do see some getting a cast iron grate as well, which I can understand.
I am also thinking about getting a griddle, I think I would use that alot.
Just don't want to go broke buying accessories! Saving for good meat!

I prefer the Grill Grates over the cast iron grate. YMMV

Pops, Thanks for your note, and I think the answer to your main question is, use of the Grill Grates is NOT a requirement, it's a preference. We actually purchased them for our Trailblazer, but the same set fits fine on the Bullseye. We like to sear our red meets, and they are easier to clean than the OEM grill top, but it is fine. We also have a 22" Cast Iron Grill Grate for the Bullesys (it was built for a Webber Kettle, but it fits perfectly on the Bullseye as well. We've actually only used it a couple of times, but it works fine too! Funny, your thinking about all the things we've actually done, we have a Griddle too, but to be honest, it still has the new tags on it....I think as our weather gets warmer, we'll probably start using it for some late spring breakfast cooks..... Hope this response helps. Keep in touch! OBTW, if you like Pizza, the Bullseye is a great pizza oven, we have a 14" pizza stone, and we literally cook on it every Friday evening unless the weather is wet....

Yes, that is very helpful and makes perfect sense.
I have the Grill Grates for my 590 and they are easy to use and clean. They really are probably a great accessory for the Bullseye as there is no drip pan or anything.
Thanks for the answer and I was looking at pizza stones today as well!
Thanks again!

OK, just did my first cook on the Bullseye and yet another hit!
Followed @Sscottfitz method although I did not document as well.

We used Costco Organic meat, the only reason we did is they are packed in convenient 1lb packages and I don't have my vacuum sealer yet!

Made 4 patties and used only the McCormick All Purpose Seasoning.

Heated grill to 375 put on the only grill grate that would fit and cooked 5 minutes on each side, adding cheese the last minute.
WIFE loved the burgers!!!! They were perfect, juicy and flavorful. Will be getting the Grill Grates that fit the 380.

The 380 came up to temp very fast maybe 5-10 minutes, but we are in Georgia and it is 71 today.
When I flipped the burgers, the temp dropped as expected, but it came back to 375 quickly and held temperature great.

Overall very happy with 1st cook. Very easy, quick and simple to use. Can see us using 2-3 nights a week.

Tomorrow, I am cooking Chef Gregs Pesto chicken as seen here: Easy Peasy Chicken
Had to watch video several times as RT is stingy with giving out recipes and make you watch the videos that are waaaay too long, I don't know why they don't post recipes more. I have signed up, but don't always get them!
Will keep you posted!

Tool cool, glad it worked out! The more you cook with this grill, I believe you'll love it even more! It has a great deal of versatility, at least for us it does!

Those burgers certainly look amazing and I'm sure the flavor is spot on but that view is to die for .. like ya died and gone to heaven. It relaxes you just looking over it.
