I have mine under an open covered patio. I do have the smoke box though. No issues with excessive smoke.

Empty paint can from any home improvement store. I can cap it after my cook, cap and toss when full.

Mine had the same problem. The key slot in the shaft was machined too deep on mine. They offered a replacement shaft but I ended up just making a spacer. Been fine like that for the past 6 months or so.

It butts up against the light but haven't had an issue. I also don't use the light since it became blackened after my first cook and cleaning it seemed pointless.
