    Grill Grates for dummies??

I really tried to like grill grates on my 590. I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like handling them a lot after they got good and greasy. Went back to using the weber kettle for sear work. I love my 590, but have learned to accept it's pellet tendencies.

    smoking pod cast for beginners

Baby Back Maniac and T-roy Cooks are pretty informative. Not a Lot pellet specific cooking, but solid fundamentals.

    Butt Wrap or No Wrap?

I like wrapping butts because of the shorter cook times I generally get. I'd rather be done 3hrs ahead of time. A longer rest period never hurts the finished quality. Plus, I usually do 2 butts at a time. When they get sweaty and rendering down, I like to keep some of that grease from going...

is this rust on my 590

It appears so. Not all stainless steel is created equally. The entire outside of the grill is looking very weathered. How many seasons has this grill sat outside? What part of the country are you in?

    Pellet Management

I have been through the varieties and blends searching for my favorites. At the end of the day, pellet grilling is so light in smoke flavor I find it makes little difference. Hickory is bold enough to come through on most meats, so that's all I buy. Swapping pellets and storing a bunch of...

    GrillGrate Feedback?

Same here. Too slow to heat, its a B-word taking the greasy things on/off the grill, ect. I am confident in the evidence others present that they work well once you figure out your process, but for me the pain in the ass factor make it almost pointless. My griddle or cast iron skillet are always...

Rumor has it Recteq is getting new investors

Maybe Kingford will push RT for a gravity charcoal rig. I personally would love to see a flat top griddle setup to run with Blackstone and now Grilla. The Grilla looks good, but $700 is nuts.

    Savannah Stoker

I had a SS on a Traeger too. It was a nice controller, but man, I was fiddling with auger %s and auto-tuning every time the weather changed 15 degrees. I just never could get it "dialed" in for any length of time. I ended up giving it to my neighbor, his Traeger rocks n rolls 3 days a week. He...

    Has Anyone Owned Traeger?

I started with a Traeger pro22. I immediately put a Savannah Stoker control on it. It ran pretty good, but I was always messing with the setting on the control. After all the fiddling, I gave the controller to my neighbor and ran the stock controller 6 more months. The temp swings are a pain...

    Got Pellets...?

Bear Mountain you can sometimes get on amazon 40lb bags of hickory 22-$25 shipped with Prime. 40lb Bear Mountain These have been a great substitute when my local LJ supply dried up during the pandemic. I will likely go bad to LJ when supplies are fixed, but $25/40lb isn't too bad.

First cook after seasoning - browning on top?

+1 for lava lock. Will prevent that smoke stain. It also cushions the door when you close it. Makes it feel really nice. I also put it on my hopper lid to prevent the metal to metal noise. It's amazing what that little bit of cushion does to the overall feel of the grill.

OH OH Has anyone experienced this ?

Spot welds look like they didn't get any penetration. I imagine RT will fix you up quickly. Maybe you have a friend that welds? Would be a pretty easy fix with a few bumps on the tig.

    Grill shutdown sequence

If I'm running 400+, I will lower the temp to 225 and let it run there a few minutes before shutting down. I never let it get back to 225, in the summer it could take an hour to get down to temp. Just 10 minutes or so to let the pot burn all the excess pellets and settle into its minimum burn...

recteq moving away from selling pellets?

I have been impressed with Bear Mountain. I was able to get 40# hickory on amazon for $22/each shipped. The pill size is a little larger, dust is minimal, and flavor is in line with any other premium pellet. Hopefully sometime I can get a nice discount code for a bulk Bear Mountain pellets.
