What could cause temp dip in the beginning?

So during the past few cooks, my 1250 has had these temp dips when starting up (see attached screenshots). It will reach the temp and then go down before coming back up and maintaining the temp throughout the cook. What could cause this?

Did you pre-fill your firepot? Perhaps that is it.

I have the Bull with the 2.0 auger motor so I don't ever have this.

I know my bullseye does dip sometimes b/c it stops feeding pellets after the initial start up. I'm not exactly sure why but they do it for a reason. Maybe the 1250 does the same thing b/c it can feed pellets fairly quickly? It bounced back in 3 minutes so I don't think it is bad pellets or anything like that.

I would call RecTeq but have a feeling it maybe set-up like my Bullseye.

During both cooks, the firepot was already filled by the shutdown procedure from the previous cook. The pellets are Recteq pellets. If it keeps doing this in the next few future cooks then I will contact Recteq.

Loop wind-up, normal. Over shot setpoint and backing down.

So you are saying that it went past the set point (even though the chart does not show it) or calculated that it was going to go past the set point and started backing down?

Your grill is not heat saturated yet, so initially the heat-up and the wind-down will both overshoot. Once everything is heated up - the starting and stopping of the pellet feed is less noticeable in temp swings.

Sounds good. :)

I sort of remember this happening when I first got my 1250, but like @sherpa said, there's a lot going on for a bit when you first fire up.

I quickly stopped using the RT app for temperature in favor of my Thermoworks Signals and I also start the grill before my final prep which usually takes me 10 - 15 minutes depending upon what I'm cooking. Everything is stabilized by the time I am paying attention.
