I just purchased the 340 bundle yesterday. I hope I made a good decision not being able to see something hands on makes me a little apprehensive.

I’m up here in Canada and bought a 340 almost two years ago. Had it delivered to a buddy in North Carolina Who I visit on a regular basis. Covid hit and the border was closed, I just got the thing last weekend. I put it together in less than half an hour and so far I’ve done a brisket and 7 pounds of chicken wings it’s an awesome machine you got nothing to worry about

thanks for letting me know that

Why I decided to go with this is because it's just the two of us. I really didn't see the need to go any bigger. I think this will suit us just fine.

Yes to a good size for two people. I've had mine for year now. I've done chicken, BB ribs, fish, ribeye steaks, burgers, beef ribs, and others I can't remember. The 340 has done everything well. A very good choice.

You will be fine. Just know connecting to your router may be a challenge but doable. Also know the app notifications usually don't work on busy holiday weekends. There are work arounds but will cost $$ if you have not previously purchased them.

Welcome to the forum. I have been using the Trailblazer/RT-340 for a couple years now and find it to be a capable grill/smoker. Like you, there are just two of us at home any more, so the size is fine.

The 340 does suffer from all the same issues as the larger RT grills (wifi connection problems, sporadic shutdown issues, etc.), but they are livable. You will do fine with this grill/smoker and there are quite a few of us here that use them, so help is available.

I see some people adding the vents to the back. Is something that I should put on?

They look cool. I think they're supposed to keep the rain out. I can see that. Do you need them? I don't know? I don't have them on my 340 and don't have problems because I don't cook in the rain, and keep my grill covered when not in use. I think it's one of those cool calls.

Welcome to the obsession.
Lots of great and helpful people here.

Since I live up here in the Pacific Northwest, where if you don’t use your grill/smoker when it’s raining, you don’t use it much, I have them. And, I like them. Are they a necessity? Here in the PNW, probably; elsewhere, not so much. YMMV

I have them as well. And I cook on my grills year-around, regardless of the weather. Are these still available anymore? They stopped offering them when the 340/590 went louvered, then when the 340 went back to two exhaust vents, I never heard where the vent covers made a comeback.

I bought some from Recteq about a year ago when I bought my second RT-340. They were not listed anywhere on the RT website, but when I called them, I was told they were still available. For anyone considering adding the vent covers, I strongly suggest calling RT and asking about the availability.

The 340 was delivered and set with Wi-Fi connected. I’m doing the initial burn in. Is a little smoke around the lid common?
