I was just thinking about this last night and was curious to see how everyone found the Rec Tec brand?

For me it was through Traeger actually. One weekend the family and I was at Costco doing our weekend shopping there and there was a Traeger display with a sells rep. I happened to stop to check them out as they looked different than other grills I had seen before.

The sells rep explained the pellet grill market and showed us all the cool things it could do. I nearly bought it on the spot and may very well had it not been for two reasons. The first being I was in the middle of rebuilding our deck and didn't want to store a grill that expensive out in the open weather. Second because I tend to research a lot of things before I just go out and buy it, certainly at the price point.

After we got home from Costco I started doing my internet research. One of the results was Rec Tec. I liked the features of the Bull, the looks, the warranty, and the feedback from nearly every place online I found was positive about the brand. The Rec Tec youtube channel was incredibly helpful an everything as a whole sold me.

I decided that the Rec Tec Bull was what I was going to buy... once the deck got finished. The wife on the other hand had other plans and bought it for me as a Fathers Day gift.

Been loving the Rec Tec brand ever since!

I have a buddy, who bought one because he had a buddy that bought one (on and on).

i was originally looking at traegers because they were the first but like with everything I do, I did my homework. Lol. I researched for quite a while and the the name RECTEC kept popping up. I’ll admit the horns were a bit of a turn off for me at first. I don’t know why, maybe because it is just different. The more research I did, I found out that RECTEC really is different. Now I love the iconic bull horns. I can’t wait for mine to arrive. ?

I was originally looking at treager specifically the timberline series then found rec tec

My electric box smoker took a dump somewhere around October, it had done a fairly decent job for my tastes, but always left me lacking enthusiasm for it. The Kamado Joe does a nice job, and with the Digi Q controller it is a bit less fiddly than without, but you still need to go through the fire building, and then refueling on long cooks thing so while I enjoy it when I'm in the mood, it isn't always as convenient, and doesn't support spontaneous hankerin' as easily.

So come Thanksgiving we trek out to California to my sister's place for the holiday. She's an avid smoker and has a nice little Camp Chef that she knows how to work for good results. We did three turkeys for the big day; oven roasted with stuffing, deep fried, and a smoked one. I was intrigued by the pellet process, the relative ease compared to what I'd known, and the bird was satisfying. So that got my brain to churnin', and my sister and I had had some discussion about "what's best?" One of the one's she'd spoken highly of was something unfamiliar to me, Wreck Tech, or something like that...……..yeah, I hadn't seen it in print so my brain processed phonetically. Like you guys, I tend to work the research thing and within my self imposed criteria the RecTec seemed like a pretty good choice.

Now, being human beings we tend toward self fulfilling prophecy. That is, what we perceive is best drives our choices, and then our recommendations (barring a bad experience). Each of us here chose the RT product, whichever model, for reasons that fit our priority matrix. For me the PID controller was a significant feature as many times I'd seen others comment about having to retrofit whatever their choice was to get the "better quality" temp control. The stainless steel features were important too, though I've learned by experience they use far more 430 than 304 even though their bragging emphasizes the latter. Not a deal breaker, just a slight loss of edge. After using the unit for a couple months, having fun experimenting with different cooks, I can't say I have any regrets. I'm sure some of the other products out there may be equal to slightly better, but I'm not convinced that's true in the value equation. I still believe that bang for the buck is what makes the RT a fav.

A good friend of mine bought one and gave rave reviews. I was always a Traeger man having dealt with my Junior Elite for some time. But as I outgrew that one I really gave both brands a hard look and found RecTec to be more in line with my needs. Add the reviews on top of that and I was sold.

In short...word of mouth, friend had/has one.

A few years back I was in the market for a smoker, and was looking at stick burners. I really liked the products I had seen on line from Lang. I had never even heard of pellet smokers to that point. I was watching an episode of BBQ Pit Masters, and one of the guys was talking about his pellet smoker. This got me intrigued, and started to turn my thoughts away from the stick burning to a more convenient (at least for me), style of cooking with the pellet grill. After months of watching just about every clip on You Tube about pellet smokers, reading every article about every smoker I could "Google" and joining a pellet cooker forum site, PelletHeads (and now another site called PelletFan), I finally pulled the trigger and decided on the RT and have never looked back. Love my 680!

Nice to see a whole line of Rec Tec friends. :D
Same -- buddy had a cookout and I was really impressed with his Rec-Tec. He's a bit nerdy like me and researches things to death before he does anything. Couple months later, Santa brought me one :)
