Was walking around Costco and saw they now sell Kirkland Signature Pellets. $12.99 for 40 pounds. Has anyone tried them? It says its an Oak Hickory Maple and Cherry blend.

I’m betting those are Traeger made pellets given their relationship with Traeger. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I had a bad experience with my last bag of Pit Boss pellets. Bought
a 20 lb bag of Bear Mtn and they worked very well on the first cook. The remainder of pit boss is spread on my veggie garden turning into mulch!!

That would be my initial thought also. I've always wondered what kind of "relationship" there is between Costco and the vendors that setup shop for a week or so each quarter. I've always assumed they just pay costco for the floor space and it is a way to promote their product in person to a big crowd. I used to see Traeger and Louisiana Grill there every few months but haven't see Louisiana Grill in a long time.

That would be about 1/4th the price of Traeger so the Pit Boss guess might be more accurate since that is only a couple of dollars cheaper than their normal price.

Unless someone has inside information and knows who makes a particular product, almost anything is possible. Price isn’t necessarily an indicator. For instance, Smokehouse pellets are by far the most expensive pellets at the local stores here, but Sam’s Club carries them for $14.98/ 40 lb. bag.
Also, sometimes store brands are better quality than the name brands that make them. Walmart brands have been known to have unusually high standards, and I’m betting Costco does, too. It’ll be fun to try them.

Interesting, as Pitboss pellets are all I use now and always work and taste great for me. So what was your bad experience if you don't mind sharing?

Since we're still guessing, it could also be Bear Mountain. Costco recently started selling that brand, and they make a "Gourmet BBQ Blend" of Oak, Hickory, Maple and Cherry. If so, that's about half the price of the Costco Bear Mountain 40lb bags, such would be awesome.

They had a lot of wood dust in them and my auger was constantly cracking and popping breaking pellets. Once I waited and waited for ignition and finally pulled everything out and the firebox was 3/4 full of pellets. I guess the excess dust buried the hot rod so it couldn't ignite pellets due to draft loss. I also had some occasional temp swings. This was my 3rd 40 lb bag and had good performance from the first 2. I let them know about it but haven't recieved a reply yet.

I don't know if they have those by me but for that price, I would definietly try them.

Haven't noticed any more dust than Traeger pellets, but I also sift out my pellets so dust isn't an issue.

I never though dust could be a problem until now. Oh, I also had 3 auger fires even after turning down to 200* and I think was the fault of the dust.

Did you get your auger fire situation sorted out, or has it still been a problem?
