Weird issue with Bullseye maiden voyage

Grill(s) owned
  1. Bullseye
I did the initial 400 degree burn on my new grill and a few things were very strange. I was expecting the grill to run hot but not this hot. I placed my Thermoworks Smoke temp prob near the grill prob and it maxed out at over 550+. I figured I would let it run to let things settle down on it own. I checked back in an hour and it was still blazing hot. The grill actual temp was still reading 400. I initially filled the hopper half way and it was empty an hour later. I adjusted the offset and settled on +18. I moved my prob to the center of the grill and it seemed to have settled down. My temp prob was fluctuating between 390-415. I think I can live with that.

When I initially ran the test mode the manual says 1.01 should appear however mine said 1.03 does anyone know what this number represents?

I cant believe this grill runs this hot out of the box. Its obvious they need to make adjustments at the factory. No way should you have to max out the offset right out of the box.

The point of the initial burn in is to burn off excess oils from the manufacturing process. The result of those oils burning is a hot grill. I would give it another go and see if the temps stabilize before you start making tweaks.

I get there would be some oil residue but there is no way excess oil would cause it to run this hot. The fire box looked like an inferno. I had to check that I was not in riot mode.

Sounds like firmware version.
