Hello! Started researching pellet grills for about a year now. Then I found Rec Tec. My eyes were opened. Rec Tec was the only one. For what you get at the price range put it over the top. Once I figured out Rec Tec was the one. What model to get? The 700 was way to big for my wife and I. So the 590 and 340 were in the running. The 590 is outstanding. But I went with the 340 for the smaller size. I just ordered it May 25th. I got most of the accessories. Grill cover, sear plates, griddle, Rec Tec got it crated up waiting on the shipping line to pick it up. Should get it next week. But as always I go though buyers remorse. Should I have gotten the 590 instead? The larger size sure would be nice. But I'll make the 340 work. What more do I need? Being able to smoke/grill 2 racks of ribs, a large pork butt, 6 or 8 chicken breast, grill and sear 2 or more steaks, ect. What more do I need? I'm sure we won't go hungry.

welcome to the forum and to the rec teq lifestyle. the size of the 340 does have limitations on big cooks, but it also gives you the awesome ability to take it to a friends house or camping very easily without a struggle. i think you will be very happy with that grill. it should heat up super fast also and give a fantastic sear with your grill grates you ordered

You will have the same excellent quality results, no matter which size you use. It's just about meeting your needs. If you outgrow the 340, it would be easy to resell and move up.

I went with the 700 but the BFG may find its way here some day. I just have to wait until my wife turns her back and does not notice. Oh well we will see if that works out.

i agree with beach bum. i have a 700. but now that i see the quality and consistency of food these grills make. i will eventually end up with a bfg i hope! but im keeping the 700 also

I’ve had a RT-700 for just about two years now and it’s great-sits on my lower patio along with the Wyldside and a Blackstone. Last December my wife bought a RT-340 and it sits on the deck right outside my kitchen along with a Bullseye and a Matador. I can’t believe how much I use the RT-340 now instead of the Bull when it’s just the two of us. Plus, when there are more than two of us having the Bullseye right beside it makes for a very useful combo.

Welcome to the Rec Teq forum. Remember size does not matter (at least that's what I'm told.) Enjoy your new piece of equipment and report back to us your results.

I also have had the 700 for just over two years. Love it! But is just the two of us and it is often way bigger than we need. I will never get rid of it. But I have been considering a 340 for a while now. I have nine outdoor cookers so it’s not like I don’t have options. But a small pellet pooper would fit right into the fleet.

I had a hard time making up my mind so I bought the Bullseye AND 590. The Bullseye gets more use for everyday cooking and grilling at my house however for smoking I prefer the 590.
I purchased back last November and used the 590 6 times as compared to about 35 times on the Bullseye

I think I used my 590 maybe two or three times since I got her last summer. I have used my Bullseye bunches of times. If or when I use my 590 again I am going to have to read the instructions again. Completely don't remember how to use it.

I think the saying is "you can never have too much grill space". That said, prep the wife for buying yourself a Bullseye.

If you're in the midwest, check out Rural King for great deals on pellets.

Welcome! I have a 590 and then bought a Bullseye. I think you will be fine. A friend of mine has a 340 and he has not had any problems and he cooks more that I!
Honestly I never use the entire size of the 590.
I say use the grill and let the size become a problem if it does then move up!
I think you are fine on accessories, that is pretty much all you need! They will also make your 340 more versatile!

Just cook on it and you will love it. It is the easiest best grill I have ever had!

Good luck and happy cooking!
Lots of help here!

It sounds like you are well set.. do you have a gasser or any other grill that can complement it? As others mention the Bullseye can be great alongside which I have been eyeing up myself for a while but I am using the Weber gasser for searing still. You can always add to the herd as needed.

We went through the same decision process last year and have owned the 340 for about 6 months.........absolutely love it and have never felt the need for a bigger unit. It has worked flawlessly and heats up really fast. Plus it gives me plenty of space on the pool patio to have a little weber genesis parked next to the rec tec without consuming too much real estate. I think you'll love the little 340!

I only use the 340 for low & slow. Once in a while I wish I had the bigger 590, but not very often. Mostly a taller cover with a bigger door and opening would be nice, not much working room. Grate size is fine for 2 racks of BB's, a bit small for a 12lb turkey breast but doable.

I just added two more grills to my collection. Amazed with my RT-700 performance so added the RT-340 and RT-380. Love all three. Just took the 340 and 380 with us to Montana. Ribs on the 340 and chicken on the 380 then steaks. Cannot go wrong with any Req Teq!

Nice setup you have there!

Put my 590 together yesterday and had 3 bolts, 3 nuts and 6 washers left. Do they send extra hardware or am I missing something.
