Do any RT-700 owners here encounter wifi issues? It's always hit & miss when trying to connect & I use 2.4 ghz, have location turned on, and able to find my network. After finding wifi I type in password and ig goes through process of connecting. After it runs it attempts to connected, I get a "problem encountered" and given option to retry (tried 3 times and gave up).
Any help is appreciated.

Have you ever successfully connected?

Had the exact same issue yesterday, just gave up after a while.
Going to look into a WiFi booster one of these days.

Yes, a number of times. Just after I got it, it didnt work & tech told me to hold wifi for 5 seconds, release & hold another 5 seconds. It worked after that but the last 3 or 4 times I've used the smoker, there have been issues comnecting.

When I first got my grill it connected and worked fine. Last month it started dropping the WiFi. I bought an after market antenna and when I went to install it realized it had the wrong gender connector. I didn’t have time to change it out so I put the stock antenna back on. When I tightened back on it rotated further than it had been (about 4:00 instead of straight up 12:00). Haven’t dropped the WiFi since! I don’t know if it just needed to be re-seated, or if the new direction helped, or it was just coincidence.

I have the 590, mine has worked fine until today. I am mid smoke and wanting to watch my temps. I has worked for the last 2 hours, then poof, not connected. I tried to connect a few times and gave up. Guess I will just grab a beer and watch the temp from beside the smoker....:)

I've never been able to get mine connected. I bought a booster and put outside and it still didn't work. My grill is about 25ft and one wall away from my router

@Tgrimm001 are you isolating the 2.4 GHz frequency band on your phone or whatever device you are using to connect to your network?

Yea. I even wheeled the grill inside the house and tried to connect it and still got nothing. My wifi thermometer that I use works great out where the grill is though.

@Tgrimm001 have you checked all of the wiring connections? That seems to be a quality control shortfall on these grills. Especially the probes but I think that was my problem with dropped WiFi was just not a good connection on the antenna. I’d check where it plugs into the motherboard as well. If that doesn’t help call customer service.

Not sure if this was asked/tried, but turn off 5ghz completely on the router.
Setting a guest network on 2.4GHz only is also my suggestion. It needs internet access, but not the rest of your network. And a separate SSID name helps avoid confusion with a 5GHz connection.

@mooncusser2k that’s what I did. Actually named my guest network ”Smoker”. Worked great.
I am not a Tech guru by any means but I think often times people mistake a lost WiFi connection with a need to set up the grill again rather than focusing on why the connection was lost. You shouldn’t need to go through the setup process again once the initial connection back to the Rec Teq servers has been made. After that it I think it is either an issue with the WiFi or the antenna.

The guest network is definitely the way to go. This is also useful if you have wifi connected lighting as they require 2.4 ghz. Best practice is just to have a separate network that is solely set up as 2.4 ghz for these items.

That is hard to set up if your router doesn't have the capability to set up separate networks.

This is true. If you think you will have lots of tech like this going forward it is worth investing in a nice mesh network router setup. You can get great coverage all over your property. Most of these routers use an app for setup, maintenance, etc. Very easy to set up what we are needing inside of the apps.

My fairly current Orbi mesh router cannot set up separate networks. However, recently I learned how to turn off 5G so only the 2.4 works.
