Bullseye temperature issues

Hello together!

I have to ask. You write that you get temperaturn in riot mode up to 749 °F and more. Unfortunately, this does not happen at all for me. Maximum temperature is around 520 °F. The bullseye is clean, the vents are always cleaned from dirt before the start.

I have the firmware version 1.03 in the controller, the device was delivered in february 2021. Nothing has been changed in the settings.

Do you have any idea what i can do? Actually, I would not like to change anything in the settings, because I am not the expert in this. Can this also be due to something else? Pellets I have those of RT (Kingsford).

Greetings

Try another bag / brand of pellets. Use another thermometer to very temperature.

Pellets is also the first thing I would check. I’m assuming that when you say the grill is clean that the fire pot is clean also? Finally, install the lid spacer if you haven’t done so already.

Thank you for your answers.

Yes the lid spacer is installed from the beginning. The pot is also clean and is always cleaned out before starting.

I thought I would use the pellets that are recommended. Had also already opened a second bag and used those. But here was the same problem.

Then I will order me once another type and try my luck with this.

Are you using the same pellets in the RT-680? If so, how hot can it get? If a new type of pellets doesn’t help, I would reach out to recteq support.

Yes I use. I don't have any problems with the 680, but its temperature doesn't go nearly as high.

I only have problems at the maximum temperature at the 380, the temperature curve is absolutely even.

My thermometers are also correct, have already tried several here, the range to the sensor in the device is a maximum of 5 - 15 °.

I understand it won’t get to 750+, but I was wondering if it will get to 500+? Because if pellet quality is affecting the Bullseye’s ability to reach max temp by approximately 30%, I would expect you might see a similar result (-30%) in the RT-680.

Only other thing possible but doubtful. Is the blower fan running?

I will test how high the RT-680 comes, but here I had no problems as I said, but also very rarely run so high. With the old pellets from RT yes, but with the new brand not yet.

Fan runs perfectly, is also clean. Also the holes in the pot as well as the passage from fan to pot is clean.

If I do not have to fundamentally adjust anything in the settings, then it will probably be due to the pellets.

Not much more I can think of. Fuel, air, and ignition should about cover it.

There Is a lot of false information on the internet that changing the feed rate will help a grill get hotter, but it will not. I’d call recteq before I would change anything other than the pellets. Keep us posted!

Okay, thanks again for your support.

I will call RT, I also had a conversation with a friend, he has 2 other brands, where we will then test again.

I keep you guys up to date!

Greetings

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I cooked baby back ribs recently on my Bullseye. 225 for 4.5 hours.
I just got my 380, first cook was baby back ribs..... 225 first two and a half hours, then foiled them with butter and sauce for 2 more hours.... burnt would be an understatement.

Did yours turn out well?

Not surprised. I used the Bullseye once for a low and slow and decided the Bull is a better choice for that.

You may be correct but the bullseye states it can cook at 225 so I grabbed it. I have a rack of ribs, my next day off I will try again.

The next time you try again, respectfully, try something different. The Bullseye is a more of a direct cooking grill and additionally is often called out by users for actual grate temps not being anywhere as low as what the recteq controller reports-often off by as much as +100*. I’m not saying you can’t cook low and slow on a Bullseye, but you absolutely should be aware of what tweaks you may need to incorporate to make it successful.

Yup yup, I keep reading about setting Something to 17 or 20, I may attempt to do that before I do it again. Its disheartening in a way.... I was eager to get this, figured I could go all directions for cooking. I've trusted old weber for 12 years now..... sold it to my neighbor, I'm afraid I may regret my decision lol

If you're having issues leave the settings at factory default.
