Bullseye temperature issues

Help. I’ve read in a few places about issues with the Bullseye running much hotter than the setting. I really want to use it for low/slow cooks. I reached out to Rec Tec, and they assured the grills run at 225. That’s conflicting with what I’ve read from a few users. Anyone have success with low/slow cooks on theirs?

I didn't have any issues during my "short" initial test at lower temps. Is it possible it over shot and needs time to recoup?

I cooked baby back ribs recently on my Bullseye. 225 for 4.5 hours.

Thanks for responding. To be clear, I don’t have a Bullseye yet. I’m ready to buy now, but I’m hoping to hear some success stories for low/slow smoking.

From the little that I know most of the Bullseye issues have been hardware related. I don't think you will regret purchasing the Bullseye, I don't.

The early controllers had some issues with how they were programmed (including mine, one of the first ones shipped) which appears for the most part to be corrected now. I expect recteq could send out updates for the WiFi grills, but the only want to update the Bullseye is to replace the controller. Too bad they don’t have WiFi or a port to update with a thumb drive download.

In other words, I think you will be fine to order one now.

I just got a new bullseye along with a Thermoworks Signal thermometer. In two separate cookings the grill wa running +40° than what it is reading while running at 225°. In the attached picture it was a 60° difference. I set it to low setting. The bullseye thermometer read 200-205°. The Signals thermometer read 227-248°and the cool thing is I have the session recorded. Hoping to call recteq this week and see what their thoughts are.

Keep us posted, I haven't checked or verified the temperature on my Bullseye, perhaps I should.
I can't speak to the Bullseye but I know Weber kettle grill temperature varies depending where the temp probe is placed.

I just checked the temp of my Bullseye. The external thermometer reads the same as the Bullseye thermometer. I replaced the Bullseye RTD but not sure if that makes any difference.
EDIT: I did the above temp test at 225 without issue. I increased the temperature to 350 and now have an actual reading of 355 and external temp of 401. At 500 actual temp the external temp is low at 480. This is interesting???The temps seem to be all over the place with no particular offset.

See my post with picture and please let us know what recteq says.

For those new to the Bullseye, take a look at the Offset instructions. I have mine all the way up to 20(%) which is max. This gets mine down close within 5-7%(high) of what I would say is accurate based on my Fireboard ambient probe. I have also added drip pans(disposal foil pans) between deflector and grates which lowered the airflow and temp even closer to actual.

Where are these instructions, I missed it.
When I did my temp comparison it wasn't linear so not sure of temp to adjust offset??

I ran my third cook on the bullseye tonight. I also noticed initial temps running 50-75 degrees hotter than set. Seems it takes awhile to stabilize. When i hit the 45 minute mark it settled into the set temp. Please let us know how recteq responds.

I haven't contacted Recteq, yet. I am going to try adjusting temperature offset and possibly adding a Weber type thermometer to the lid. I still have 1 year and 11 months of warranty left 😁

What size drip pan are you using? Any pictures would be helpful

I am not using a drip pan yet. I'm just letting everything get seasoned now.

Sorry Chris I did that reply on my phone, didn't mean to quote you just dusk2dusk.
