There is no question that Rec Tec grills are some of the best pellet grills you can buy for the money. However there are ton of grill accessories out there that will not only make your Rec Tec that much better, but will also make your grilling experience much easier.

Below is a list of some of the most common pellet grill accessories that not only I recommend, but also recommended by many others online and in other pellet grill groups.

Most recommended pellet grill accessories

Meat probe / thermometer pen - Even having the best smoker grill on the market (Rec Tec :D) doesn't do much good if you don't know the internal temperature of the meat you're cooking. While some Rec Tec models, like the Bull and Stampede, have built-in meat probes - it's still nice to have a thermometer pen that you can very quickly and easily get the internal temperature of whatever it is you're cooking without having to cut open the meat to see what it looks like inside.

The Lavatools Javelin is a great thermometer pen that won't break the bank. The Lavatools Javelin is quick (, very accurate, and space saving due to it's folding design. If you're looking for something with a bit more features such as a backlit display and rotating display then the Lavatools Javelin Pro would make a great upgrade.

If you must have the fastest and most accurate thermometer pen and don't care about price, then the Thermapen Mk4 is what you're looking for. I would venture to say most backyard grillers probably don't need this, but hey maybe it comes with some bragging rights! :D

Cooking Mat - If you've ever cooked vegetables, shrimp or other smaller items you know how hard it can be to keep them on the grill grate. A cooking mat solves this issue by providing a non-stick mesh grill mat that makes cooking smaller and/or messy items much easier to grill.

Frogmat is a great product and one that I use myself. The come in various different sizes and can be thrown in the dishwasher to be cleaned. Rec Tec also offers a 16"x16" grill mat too that's worth checking out.

Searing Grates - Searing grates conducts heat more efficiently compared to the normal wire grates round in pellet grills.

This allows your grill grate to be up to 300 degrees hotter on the grate than in the hood, thus allowing you to easily add restaurant like sear marks. Searing grates also be used to reverse sear your steaks, just simple turn them over flat side up. I'd recommend getting a set of Grill Grate searing grates.

Smoke Tubes - While Rec Tec grills produce enough smoke for most people, there are those that wish it would create more smoke or those that wish to have more smoke when they want. A smoke tube allows you to add more smoke when you want it, simply fill up the smoke tube with pellets, light it, then throw it in the grill. Now your pellet grill is producing even MORE smoke.

The most recommended smoke tube would be the A-MAZE-N pellet tube smoker.

Grilling Gloves - No, not to keep your hands warm, but to protect your hands from getting burned! Having a set of grilling gloves makes it far easier to handle large cooks, such has a hot brisket.

There are all types of gloves you could use, from silicone to synthetic, but I've found a set of leather welding gloves to not only provide more than adequate protection but also be much more cost effective. (y)

These are just some of the most recommended pellet grill accessories, but certainly not a complete list. So please, share with us what your favorite grill accessories are below!

I've wondered about getting a pen...then I remembered the saying "If you're lookin' it ain't cookin!"
I go back and forth...
I finally traded my old ThermoPro wireless monitor for a FireBoard and have been extremely impressed with it. Pricey addition to the arsenal - but when I was informed I'd be cooking 4 kinda of meat for 50 people, I needed all the probes and the distance capabilities.

not sure how i feel about grill grates and them being aluminum even though they say they are safe to cook on not sure they are give me cast iron all day long

I've used my Grill Grates many times when doing a reverse sear.

What kind of concerns do you have of them?

my concern is the aluminum leeches into your food and causes many health issues, i get that grill grates are anodized but i still dont trust it especially at high heat.

For the fans of Grill Grates, they're having a Father's Day sale, 15% off with code GRATEDAD.
Mike and some others have flipped their grates over to create a griddle type surface, which does work as long as what you're doing isn't impacted by the holes. If you're a fan of smash burgers the holes could be an issue. A lesser known accessory from GG is their griddle plate. It is sized somewhat oddly as it is shy of covering two grate sections, but it's an option that gives you a smooth, flat griddling surface.

Here's some items that I have purchased long before I was a pellet smoker. They have been great accessories to have on had.

The gloves are awesome. I use them even when I am cooking with the oven.

All were bought off Amazon

Oh crap! What did you do?!?!? You know as soon as @Uncle Bob sees that post he is going to put us all to shame right?? Mr gizmoholic himself is about to make a grand appearance....just watch this. I'm getting me some popcorn!

Nope...……….that's not my game. Those are very useful tools. I especially like those spice jars for home made rubs. Good suggestions.

What?!?! I would have bet the farm that you would have all the coolest toys to show us and tell us how awesome they are. I was looking for my next purchases from your recommendations...lol

Normally I would think of this as a thread to suggest things we've personally bought/used/played with, but I saw this thing this morning and thought it would answer a question I think I saw here in the past week or so but don't remember which thread. Here's a link to a You tube vid on the Rib Ring from BBQ Guru. Most of us have seen the inline rib racks intended to stand the ribs on edge in a neat row, but some believe that because of the close proximity from rack to rack that they cook unevenly. That may be a brand or use problem, not enough info to know for sure. The BBQ Guru rack aligns the rib racks in a circular pattern, and it appears that there is good spacing on spare ribs. Baby Backs, maybe not so much. It looks like you'll need to buy or trim your own to a St. Louis style to be able to get the six racks of ribs they brag of. You could easily get two of these in a Bull, but not likely a Stampede (though it's maybe possible to stagger them and just squeeze the second one in), certainly not a Trailblazer. I saw another YT vid evaluating this on a Weber and the reviewer felt that one of the outer racks were slightly overdone, and the inner most rack slightly under done, though his guests said they liked any of them fine. I suspect that supplied pan might have something to do with restricting air flow. Since our RT grills have a built in drip pan I'd think you could run it without the supplied pan and get a more even cook. Since I haven't used one I'm not going to advocate for it, but thought it a device worth considering for those looking to feed a large crowd and maximize the space available.

Wow...that does look interesting. Its 59.99 on amazon
I have 2 of the stand up types I got as gifts that I have never tried because they wouldn't fit in the MES. I always thought by looking at them that they could be too close together but once I get my " Longhorn Bull;)" I will be giving them a tryout.

If the round one works like they say that could be great as well. Especially if One could fit 2 on the grill!

Thank you @Uncle Bob

It would be good to hear a report from you on the evenness of cook on the inline ones if it's any kind of significant issue. On the BBQ Guru site the round ones are on sale for $49.95 .

Will do @Uncle Bob . my family loves ribs so I will take pics of the racks (they are different manufacturers) they are shaped differently. And I will give them a go and see how they work out. MIght have to do a couple of tests....poor me...LOL
My kids only give me cooking gifts....God I love them:love:
